Our Accreditation
AT THE CHILDREN’S MONTESSORI ACADEMY our objective is to provide children and families with an authentic Montessori education. As one of only a handful of accredited Montessori schools in Richmond Hill, and the only school in Oak Ridges, we are committed to maintaining and exceeding the standards of accreditation by the Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators (CCMA).
The Montessori name is in the public domain as Maria Montessori never patented her method. The word Montessori in a school's name is no guarantee an authentic Montessori education is being offered. Parents can and do find that they have enrolled their children in Montessori programs where:
  • The teachers have not received adequate or in some cases any Montessori training.
  • There are insufficient, or in some cases, no Montessori materials.
  • The children are not in a multi-age setting of three, four and five year olds.
  • The program does not have a policy of accepting children at the appropriate age for this method, typically before four years old.
ACCREDITATION SETS A SCHOOL APART FROM those who are unable to meet CCMA requirements or unwilling to practice authentic Montessori education. To become a member of the CCMA a school must undergo and succeed in the accreditation process. If a school is unable to meet the standards required by the CCMA, they cannot be recognized as providing an authentic Montessori education. The CCMA strongly urges parents to learn what constitutes a Montessori education and to visit schools.
Teachers hired at our school have completed their Montessori training from institutes which have met the standards of the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE).
