About us
THE CHILDREN´S MONTESSORI ACADEMY is a special place for families in Oak Ridges and Richmond Hill. Established in 1997, we are an intentionally small preschool providing children with a traditional Montessori education which continues Maria Montessori's lifetime work. We are proud to be a CCMA accredited Montessori school offering an authentic Montessori program.
When children enter our school environment for the first time, they feel comfortable immediately. This is because our school is intended to feel like both a school and a "casa dei bambini", house for children, as outlined by Dr. Maria Montessori in her writings. Our warm, intimate and nurturing environment makes it possible for your child to make a smooth transition from home to school in their early years, while still communicating the importance of learning.
Our small classrooms, with low student-teacher ratio, enable your child to feel like they are part of a second family, a community of children. Your child will never be just another face in the crowd. Your child is a special and valued member of the community, and is able to learn at his or her own pace. The friendships and relationships your child makes in this loving environment often endure well beyond their years with us.
Along with an outstanding preschool education, The Children's Montessori Academy offers parents peace of mind, knowing that your child is in a stimulating, safe and secure environment. Childhood happens only once.

“Our Aim is not merely to make children understand, and still less to force them to memorize, but to touch their imaginations as to enthuse them to their innermost core”

Our History
THE CHILDREN´S MONTESSORI ACADEMY was founded in 1997 by Mrs. Lorraine Pinto. Mrs. Pinto acquired and Honours B.A. from York University and completed her Montessori Training at Toronto Montessori Institute. She taught at Toronto Montessori School on Bayview Avenue in Richmond Hill from 1992 to 1997. She was honoured to have been hired by Mrs. Helma Trass, the Founder of Toronto Montessori Schools, and to have worked under both Mrs. Trass and Vice-Principal Cecile Berg. During the 1990's Mrs. Pinto also volunteered her time and served on the executive committee of CAMT (Canadian Association of Montessori Teachers) for four years.

AFTER FIVE WONDERFUL YEARS at TMS, Mrs. Pinto felt it was time to take on another challenge. Inspired by the writings of Dr. Maria Montessori, Mrs. Pinto strove to create a small Montessori school reminiscent of the very first Montessori school founded by Dr. Maria Montessori in Rome. She began in her home in Richmond Hill and two years later acquired a half acre property in the heart of Oak Ridges. After months of hard work, her first class came through the door in September 1999. The rest is history, and a dream was realized.
